The use of a small cannula in aesthetic medicine

The aesthetic treatments, in last years, have become more and more safe: the materials are improved and there are really very low cases of allergies, and intolerances that are reduced near zero.
The only real side effect probably is the ecchymosis and in more important cases an hematoma. There are some little tips and tricks to reduce the appearance of this side effect, as the use of ices, as those seen in the picture.

Figure1

In this picture it is possible to see the ice that my assistant uses every day to compress and reduce ecchymoses to a very low rate.

But there is an other interesting possibility that I use since some months: the use of a small cannula that allows every doctor to avoid veins and all other delicate structures

First of all I introduce a small needle 26G, with a syringe 2cc with Carbocaine 3%.
I inject a very little quantity (0,1 ml) in the dermis to have a little bump and then with the needle I go in and out to make the way for the cannula.
I leave the needle inserted in the skin, otherwise you can loose the hole!

Then I insert the small cannula 45 mm x 27G, very flexible but strong (steel made) in the little hole. It is very very easy!
Then with a in and go movement I inject the Hyaluronic acid, in this case for the naso labial folds.

Also on the other side it is possible to inject the naso labial folds but also the marionette lines from the same hole as it is possible to see in the picture.

To be able to insert the small cannula without pain from the hole without problems, it is very important to pull the skin with the 2’ finger of the other hand to make the skin tightened.
In this way you can inject all the district from a single hole.

The advantages are two:

  • No pain while injecting even for the lip!! Trust in me!
  • Very important reduction of the trauma: ecchymoses and hematomas are completely avoided.

Remember tighten the skin!!

Conclusions: The little traumas after aesthetic medicine procedures is nowadays the only one side effect that we see during our job.
The use of these very small cannulas reduces the problem of all early side effects near zero. It is very safe and can be used also in all difficult areas of the face as temples, paris lip, zigomas.
It is easy to perform and also improves our ability. This technique must enter in the knowledge of every Aesthetic doctor.
